A 300-level medical student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), identified as Williams, has tragically passed away just a day before the school's examinations were set to begin.
While speaking with Premium Times, the provost of the college, Professor David Oke, noted that the student may have decided to take his life due to pressure of the impending examination.
He based his suspicion on the fact that some colleagues of the student had reported that he posted a cryptic message, such as โgoodbye,โ before he was found dead.
The Provost noted that the management of the College will conduct an autopsy on his remains after a meeting with his parents today, Monday
โAs of now, we cannot authoritatively say, this is the cause of the death but a suspicion that it could be suicide, but no definite conclusion yet.
โThey are supposed to start exams tomorrow (Monday), and some of his colleagues mentioned that he had posted a cryptic message, such as โgoodbye,โ which they didnโt interpret as a red flag at the time,โ he said.
The Association of Medical Students, University of Lagos (AMSUL), has also confirmed the death of the student in a WhatsApp message.
The message reads: โDear AMSULites, It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of a beloved AMSULite in the Genezens class
โAs we navigate this difficult time, we encourage everyone to keep the departed and their family in your thoughts and prayers. Please reach out to your classmates, and friends, especially those in the Genezens class, and offer your support.
โLetโs stand together, showing compassion and care for one another during this challenging period.โ
